The Shovels are Belgium’s number one cult band. They started in Hasselt, the capital of Limburg (Belgium’s strangest province) in the 90’s and are still going strong today. They are led by the uncompromising and fearless Beatles obsessive Erik Debny who writes all their fantastic songs and records them on 60’s and 70’s vintage gear only. The Shovels have released 7 albums since 1996 but Erik has enough material in his vaults for at least another 10 and still writes new songs all the time. Erik also released one solo album, the instant classic protest album “Beat The System”. Former and current members have been or still are in bands like Evil Superstars, Millionaire, Peuk, Fence, Tonsils and a lot more bands you might have heard of before you heard of The Shovels. None of them would have become what they are without The Shovels and Erik Debny. The Shovels are still a big influence on new bands like Soft Boy, Frankie Traandruppel and Brorlab to name just a few.
“The Cat Album” is the 8th album by The Shovels. It is a concept album about, you guessed it, cats! Full of catchy songs about all the different aspects of a cat’s life.. and death. You will laugh, you will cry and you will love your cat even more after experiencing “The Cat Album” by The Shovels!
I have lived and made memories with this record for a couple of years now and I’m glad everyone can finally have the chance to do the same. I want to thank Erik Debny for giving me the opportunity to be a part of his amazing universe and the The Shovels legacy.
